Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown believes the in-form Red Devils have the momentum to overtake Arsenal in the race for a top four spot.
Jose Mourinhoâs side currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, just two points behind the fourth place Gunners, after recovering their season with a 16-game unbeaten streak.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have faltered in recent weeks, having slumped to back-to-back league defeats to West Ham in Chelsea and suffered a devastating 5-1 loss against Bayern Munich.
The Gunners have the look of a team short of confidence in themselves and their under-pressure manager Arsene Wenger, and are now in danger of slipping out of contention.
Itâs been 21 years since Arsenal last finished outside the Premier Leagueâs top four, but Brown believes the Red Devils can take advantage of their slump to beat them to a Champions League spot.
He said: âThe players at Arsenal will obviously be very disappointed, and I think United can push on from there.
âTheyâve got the momentum at the moment, and sometimes thatâs what itâs all about.
âA couple of months ago you probably wouldnât have said this would happen.
âThe game against Bayern was terrible. There was no leadership from Arsenal. Playing away from home in the Champions League, youâve got to have someone who puts the foot down, controls the game and get everyone going, and they just didnât seem to have that. It was a massive defeat for them.
âWhereas Manchester United have got a lot better as the season has gone on Theyâre a very hard team to beat now.
âMourinho has done a great job this season, heâs got them back in contention for the Champions League and theyâve got to take that step forward now as the other teams seem to be slacking a bit.â
